Privacy at SayForge

SayForge transcribes on your phone wherever it can. When a recording stops, its transcript is saved to your account so you can reopen it, edit it, and turn it into documents on any device.

Who we are

SayForge is operated by Hajir Lesani (ABN 69 227 637 847), Melbourne, Australia. For any privacy question or request, email support@sayforge.app.

On-device by default

Live transcription uses your phone's built-in speech recogniser, and SayForge asks for it to run on the device. Whenever on-device recognition isn't available yet — for example before the language model has downloaded, or for a language your phone can't recognise offline — the operating system's own speech service (Apple's on iPhone, Google's on Android) does the transcription instead, under that company's privacy terms. We never receive that audio.

What we store

When a recording stops, its transcript is saved to your account on our servers. We also store your sign-in details (email, name, and the Google or Apple account you use), the projects, templates, flags and generated documents you create, your chat history with the AI assistant, your settings, and usage records we use to apply plan limits and track AI costs. Recorded audio stays on your phone unless you choose Optimise with audio.

When data goes to the cloud

Cloud AI features — Optimise, Generate, chat and cloud read-aloud — run when you use them, or, for a project you've set to auto-generate, when a recording in it is saved. The relevant transcript or document text is then sent to an AI provider to process your request.

If you choose Optimise with audio, that recording's audio is uploaded to temporary storage and transcribed by AssemblyAI. When the job finishes we delete our stored copy and ask AssemblyAI to delete its transcript. Both deletions are best effort: if one fails, the file can stay until the storage's automatic expiry, and AssemblyAI keeps its own copy under its own retention policy.

When your content reaches an AI provider, they process it under their own terms. We don't use your content to train AI models.

Microphone

SayForge asks for microphone access for a single purpose: to record and transcribe the conversations you choose to record. Recording starts and stops under your control, and the microphone is never used in the background without an active recording.

Service providers

We use a small set of providers to run SayForge. They process your data only as needed to deliver the feature you ask for, under their own terms:

  • Our AI gateway (hosted on Cloudflare) — forwards transcript, document and chat text to the provider of the model in use: Google (Gemini) or Anthropic (Claude). In a chat with no recording or file, a message may also prompt a web search. When you pick a model from the Claude group in Settings, that text goes straight to Anthropic instead of through the gateway.
  • AssemblyAI — transcribes a recording's audio when you choose Optimise with audio, which is held in Cloudflare R2 storage while that runs.
  • Groq — turns text into speech when you use cloud read-aloud.
  • Sentry — receives crash and error reports and a sample of session replays. Replays are masked: text and images are hidden before they leave the app.
  • Vercel — hosts the web app and API.
  • Neon — the managed PostgreSQL database that holds your account and saved content.
  • Cloudflare — sends our email, such as magic-link sign-in, and delivers contact-form submissions as your message to us.
  • Google and Apple — authenticate you when you choose those sign-in methods.

Where your data goes

We're based in Australia, but the providers above store and process data overseas, mainly in the United States. Cloudflare also handles traffic in the data centre nearest to you. By using SayForge you understand that your information is disclosed to these overseas recipients so the app can work.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell your data.
  • We don't run ad tracking.
  • No bot ever joins your calls or meetings.

Your controls

You can delete individual recordings and projects at any time. Delete all my data in Settings removes every saved recording with its transcript, flags and generated documents, your chat history, projects, custom templates and template folders, and your usage records, in one step. Your account stays, so you remain signed in. Recordings kept on your phone stay there until you delete them from the app or your device.

To delete your account itself, email support@sayforge.app from the address you sign in with and we will remove it and everything linked to it.

Children

SayForge isn't directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we don't knowingly collect their personal data.

Keeping your data secure

Traffic is encrypted in transit and secrets stay server-side. See our Security page for more on how we protect your account and data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, give notice in the app.
